The Incredibles 2 – My Review

It may not be much of a surprise, but my favorite movie of all time is The Incredibles. I have waited anxiously for the sequel and after viewing it over the weekend with my teenage kids, I was not disappointed. If you don’t count the Toy Story movies (all three are so brilliant, 2 and 3 hardly seem like sequels), then Pixar got into the business of making sequels back in 2011 when they made Cars 2. That movie alone instantly cheapened Pixar’s brand as soon as it came out. The rest of their sequels have been better, but all … Continue reading The Incredibles 2 – My Review

BFG is Big and Friendly

The new movie, BFG (Big Friendly Giant), has disappointed in ticket sales so far, but in the “great movie” department, it’s a huge success. I took my 13 year old daughter to see it this past weekend and we both had nothing but good things to say about it. The story, adapted from a much beloved book by Roald Dahl, has a classic feel with plenty of old fashioned good versus evil action, and just enough magic mixed in to carry us viewers into a world that’s much more fun and exciting then the one we live in. The giant is lovable and … Continue reading BFG is Big and Friendly

Summer Movies For Kids

This is my list of summer 2015 movies that have great promise of being well-made entertaining movies AND appropriate for kids (some are for older kids, maybe 12 and up). These are the ones I’m personally looking forward to. I plan to see every one of these eventually, but the two that have me about to jump out of my skin in anticipation are The Avengers 2 because the first Avengers movie is possibly the greatest movie every made, and Inside Out because it’s the first Pixar movie that isn’t a sequel since Brave in 2012. And, in my opionion, Pixar movies are … Continue reading Summer Movies For Kids

Guardians, Not The Same As Avengers

The new movie, Guardians of the Galaxy is about a group of heroes, adapted from a Marvel comic book series, much like another group of heroes from Marvel Comics, The Avengers. I have yet to see Guardians, but it’s receiving high praise from critics with a 91% at rottentomatoes.com. For the sake of comparison, The Avengers received a 92%. Guardians of the Galaxy has the polished look, plenty of hype, and strong reviews, setting it up to be another big superhero movie for Marvel, much like The Avengers back in 2012. The similarity between the two teams of heroes stops there. The … Continue reading Guardians, Not The Same As Avengers

Earth To Echo & Maze Runner

Two New Movies for Young Sci-Fi Fans, Coming Soon! EARTH TO ECHO Coming out July 2nd. This one is exciting to me because it’s a rare science fiction movie that’s actually rated PG. It looks like the kind of movie adults can watch with their kids and they can actually all enjoy the same movie together. Not only that, the trailer looks awesome. It reminds me of some of my favorite movies like ET, Super 8, and Goonies. Here is the newest trailer. THE MAZE RUNNER The movie adaptation of The Maze Runner, by James Daschner, is scheduled to be released September … Continue reading Earth To Echo & Maze Runner

Amazing Spider-Man 2

The summer of 2014 has officially begun with the opening of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, in theaters everywhere this weekend. I’ve read many reviews on it and it looks like I’m going to have to give it two different grades. In the area of morality and appropriateness for younger audiences, I’m giving it a definite STAR. The only caution here is the expected high level of action violence that may not be suitable for the younger kids. Otherwise, I applaud the strong moral character of this movie. Here are a few review highlights to better explain: MOVIEGUIDE.ORG says, “…The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is … Continue reading Amazing Spider-Man 2

GODZILLA – Old & New

The New Godzilla movie will attack theaters on May 16th. At the bottom of this post is a trailer for the new movie, but first, let’s take a quick look at Godzilla over the last 59 years. He’s had a long and varied history of wreaking havoc against all manner of enemies from mankind to other giant monsters and even space aliens. He’s been our enemy and our friend. He’s been huge and he’s been gigantic. Check out the youtube video below by ortboys. With modern computer graphics and hi-tech special effects, along with heavy demand from Godzilla purists to get … Continue reading GODZILLA – Old & New

MALEFICENT New Trailer

It’s no secret that the villain often turns out more interesting than the hero. So, it makes perfect sense to re-tell a beloved fairy tale from the villain’s point of view. Insert an A-list actress and the best in make-up, computer graphics, and special effects and you should be well on your way to a big hit. When I first heard about Maleficent a few months ago I have to admit that it did not sound appealing to me. After all, I’m a big fan of heroes. I love to see good win over evil. But, the more I hear … Continue reading MALEFICENT New Trailer

Earth To Echo – First Look

Earth To Echo will arrive in theaters this July 4th weekend. Today was the first time I’ve heard of this movie. Judging from the trailer and some of the buzz I’m seeing on movie sites, it could be really good. It looks like it’s an alien-come-to-earth movie in the vein of E.T. and Super 8, two of my favorite movies of all time. This one, like those, is centered around the group of kids who find the alien; every boy’s fantasy.Beyond the interesting plot, I’m also giving it attention here because it will be rated PG. Here is the plot … Continue reading Earth To Echo – First Look

A New Oz

Legends of Oz; Dorothy’s Return, a new animated film is scheduled to come out this summer. It follows one of the later novels in the OZ series, written by Roger Stanton Baum in 1989. Roger is the  great grandson of original author L. Frank Baum. According to an article at Entertainment Weekly.com, the story follows Dorothy as she goes back to Oz where she and her old pals, Scarecrow, Tinman, and the Cowardly Lion take on a new villain, The Jester. Will it be good? There is alot of uncertainty about this one. The voice lineup is impressive. In the order … Continue reading A New Oz
