The Incredibles 2 – My Review

It may not be much of a surprise, but my favorite movie of all time is The Incredibles. I have waited anxiously for the sequel and after viewing it over the weekend with my teenage kids, I was not disappointed. If you don’t count the Toy Story movies (all three are so brilliant, 2 and 3 hardly seem like sequels), then Pixar got into the business of making sequels back in 2011 when they made Cars 2. That movie alone instantly cheapened Pixar’s brand as soon as it came out. The rest of their sequels have been better, but all … Continue reading The Incredibles 2 – My Review

Thoughts on Dr Strange Movie

After seeing the new movie, Dr. Strange a few nights ago, I’m giving it the following two ratings:  for Entertainment Value  for Content Concerns The 2 symbols I’ve used above are called SPLARS, a hybrid of a STAR and a SPLAT. A SPLAR means the movie falls somewhere between good and bad. Entertainment Value In many ways, Dr. Strange was a very entertaining movie. Benedict Cumberbatch was perfect for the role. Not only was his acting right on, but he fit the part physically as well. The character arc for Dr. Strange as a character was very effective. He was somewhat unlikable … Continue reading Thoughts on Dr Strange Movie

6 Movie Characters Who Are Great Role Models

The kids of today are more influenced by fictional characters than in any time in history. That’s because our society has somehow come to the conclusion that in order for our children to grow up properly we must give them their own personal viewing device (cell phone), at the earliest sign of puberty, so that they never have to be separated from instant entertainment.  So, for that reason, and because I just like thinking about these kinds of things, I’ve decided to create a list of some of the best fictional role models for kids in today’s entertainment. For my list, … Continue reading 6 Movie Characters Who Are Great Role Models

Who is Ant Man?

Another Marvel superhero comes to the big screen this week. He’s Ant-Man, a name that is not exactly a household name like Spider Man, Superman or Batman. Marvel Comic book fans will instantly identify Ant-Man as one of the founding members of The Avengers. That fact alone gives us an important clue as to why Ant-Man is being deemed important enough to be given his own big-budget movie. We can expect to see him joining Iron Man, Captain America and the rest in upcoming Avengers films. It’s already been confirmed that Ant-Man will be in the upcoming film, Captain America: Civil War, … Continue reading Who is Ant Man?

Summer Movies For Kids

This is my list of summer 2015 movies that have great promise of being well-made entertaining movies AND appropriate for kids (some are for older kids, maybe 12 and up). These are the ones I’m personally looking forward to. I plan to see every one of these eventually, but the two that have me about to jump out of my skin in anticipation are The Avengers 2 because the first Avengers movie is possibly the greatest movie every made, and Inside Out because it’s the first Pixar movie that isn’t a sequel since Brave in 2012. And, in my opionion, Pixar movies are … Continue reading Summer Movies For Kids

BIG HERO 6 – My Review

Big Hero 6, the new movie by Walt Disney Animation Studios, was a big hit with me and my kids. The story is set in the future when robotic technology is revolutionizing everything. Our hero, named “Hero”, is one of several kids we’re introduced to in the movie, who are gifted robotic designers/engineers. When Hero’s big brother is killed in a tragic fire, Hero becomes depressed and purposeless. Until he discovers two things; the evil villain who was responsible for his brother’s death, and the lovable robot named Baymax that was his brother’s life achievement. Along the way Hero enlists the help … Continue reading BIG HERO 6 – My Review

Black Panther Revealed

Marvel Studios made several exciting announcements today about upcoming movies that will further develop the Marvel universe. Some of the announcements involved familiar names from the Avengers, and some were about new names to the big screen. Names that Marvel Comics fans will instantly recognize but film fans will have to get to know. Of note were upcoming movies for Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and The Black Panther. I will try to highlight the others in future blog posts, but let’s look at the character that, I think, is most exciting; The Black Panther. The first picture is the way he looked in … Continue reading Black Panther Revealed

Movie Lineup for DC Comics

Warner Brothers has just unveiled its release schedule for movies based on the DC Comics universe.  For someone like me who enjoys superhero movies, this is exciting news. On the other hand, I predict that at some point between 2016 and 2020 the movie-going public as a whole will become overwhelmed with superhero movies and even become so sick of them that there will be a backlash against them. How can that be, you ask? First of all, Marvel Comics and Disney have also released their schedule of upcoming movies and it’s even more ambitious than the one below including upcoming Avengers movies and solo films … Continue reading Movie Lineup for DC Comics
