Zootopia Review

Walt Disney Animation Studios is at the top of their game these days with yet another first class animated movie like Zootopia, coming right on the heels of possibly the most popular animated movie ever, Frozen in 2013. In 2010 they gave us the equally wonderful Tangled and then in 2014 they changed their game with a wonderful story about a boy and his robot called Big Hero 6. Followers of my blog might recall that I wrote a post in 2014 that predicted that Disney had found their new hit movie making formula. I called it the Frozen Formula. … Continue reading Zootopia Review

New Mary Poppins Movie

Disney has just announced that they are developing a “new original live-action musical film” about everyone’s favorite magical nanny, Mary Poppins. I’m relieved to tell you that the new movie will not be a remake of the original. That movie, from 1964, is one of the greatest movies of all time and it would be very difficult to make a new version that could even come close to the brilliance of the original. Disney must have thought the same thing because, according to Entertainment Weekly, “The new Poppins film will take place in Depression-era London, some 20 years after Disney’s classic … Continue reading New Mary Poppins Movie

Cinderella is Enchanting

I took my two girls to see Disney’s new Cinderella movie this past weekend, and I’m not exaggerating when I say I loved the movie just as much, if not more, than they did. This is what I liked about it, in order of importance: 1. The character of Cinderella was portrayed with perfection. The acting by Lily James was spot on. She was the perfect blend of kindness, joyfulness, intelligence, and courage, just as Cinderella should be. Credit also goes to screenwriter, Chris Weitz and director, Kenneth Branagh for giving us a Cinderella that is true to the character from … Continue reading Cinderella is Enchanting

Cinderella 2015, Disney’s Next Hit

The classic story of Cinderella gets the real life motion picture treatment from Walt Disney, opening March 26th. As you’ll see from this trailer, it looks stunning and magical. I think Disney will have another hit on their hands with this one. Not surprising. They seem to be making all the right moves these days. Keep it up, I say. As long as they keep putting out quality, wholesome entertainment that kids and their parents can enjoy, they can keep them coming. Check out the trailer. The Incredibles 2 – In The Works

Disney has just announced that sequels are in development for a couple of classic Pixar movies, according to an article on the online news source “The Independent” . I’m very excited about one of the sequels, the other one, ho-hum. The Incredibles 2 is currently being written by Brad Bird, director of the first Incredibles movie. That’s the one I’m stoked about because I count The Incredibles as, not only my favorite Pixar film, but possibly my favorite of all time. According to the article, Bird has always downplayed the possibility of a sequel for The Incredibles, but he told The Independent, “If I … Continue reading The Incredibles 2 – In The Works

The FROZEN Formula

FROZEN, by Walt Disney Animation Studios came out on Blu-ray and DVD March 18th. By the time that day ended Frozen had sold 3.2 million copies (in one day) to make it “one of the biggest sellers on home video in a decade.” according to Variety.com. “Frozen has now earned $1.032 billion at the global box office and is the 13th highest grossing film ever released.”, the article goes on the say. Read the full article here. This is evidence that Walt Disney Animation has succeeded in reinventing itself and is back on top of the major motion picture animation business. I’m sure … Continue reading The FROZEN Formula

It’s no secret that the villain often turns out more interesting than the hero. So, it makes perfect sense to re-tell a beloved fairy tale from the villain’s point of view. Insert an A-list actress and the best in make-up, computer graphics, and special effects and you should be well on your way to a big hit. When I first heard about Maleficent a few months ago I have to admit that it did not sound appealing to me. After all, I’m a big fan of heroes. I love to see good win over evil. But, the more I hear … Continue reading MALEFICENT New Trailer
