My Favorite Middle-Grade Fiction Books of 2019

Because I am the author of two middle-grade fiction books, I have a special interest in seeing quality books from that genre get the attention they deserve.  As a book reviewer, I try to spread my book reading time out between my three favorite genres; science fiction, fantasy, and middle-grade fiction. In the past, I tried to choose my favorites from all 3 genres and squeeze them into one all-inclusive top ten list.  I found that my favorite middle-grade books had a tough time competing with my favorites from the other two genres. Not because they are lesser in quality, … Continue reading My Favorite Middle-Grade Fiction Books of 2019

Arestana 2 – Book Review

Arestana: The Defense Quest by Shawn P.B. Robinson is part two in the Arestana series for young readers. It continues the story of young Liam as he gets pulled into the world of Arestana for another adventure. This time he must lead the armies of Arestana in defeating an attacking enemy. Liam is only a boy and knows nothing about warfare but that doesn’t matter because most Earthly logic makes no sense in Arestana. Once back in the strange land, Liam joins up with his old friends and makes a few new ones. Everyone is just as silly as ever and Liam … Continue reading Arestana 2 – Book Review

Venom Wars of the Desert Realm

Venom Wars of the Desert Realm by Michael C. Baumann is an excellent adventure tale for young readers. It’s a classic story of good versus evil set in a world of intelligent animals. The dark forces of evil have defeated King Aridin, the brave eagle, and are gathering their forces to bring every good animal under their power. The dark side is made up mostly of reptiles and flying bugs. The side of the light is populated by birds, mammals, and some of the crawling insects. Our heroes are three courageous hares, young brothers who lost their parents years earlier. … Continue reading Venom Wars of the Desert Realm

Cover Reveal – Glazed Man 2

At long last, I’m revealing the cover of my new book, Glazed Man and Rat Girl 2. See it here, below. This book is the second in the series and it will provide answers to the cliffhangers that I left my readers with at the end of GMRG#1. What happened to Martha (Rat Girl) and the rats after they blasted off from earth in their tiny rocket? Did they ever make it to Mars? And what about our other hero, Glazed Man? Last we saw him, he had been kidnapped by some mysterious person whose face was familiar to Glazed … Continue reading Cover Reveal – Glazed Man 2

Watch Glazed Man Come to Life

Glazed Man & Rat Girl, THE BOOK TRAILER For the last few months of my life, every precious extra moment I’ve had has been devoted to putting together the video above. It’s the official book trailer for Glazed Man & Rat Girl. Please readers, watch it and give me your feedback. I think you’ll find that it’s unlike any other book trailer you’ve seen. Many of you may not know that my day job is as a video producer. When I decided to make a book trailer, I knew I had to do it right or not at all. I’ve seen far … Continue reading Watch Glazed Man Come to Life

A Great Gift For Young Readers

Consider giving the young reader in your family a book he or she will absolutely love. My book, Glazed Man & Rat Girl is a chapter book with 100 illustrations. It’s full of humor and non-stop action. The response I’ve gotten over and over from parents is that their child enjoyed Glazed Man & Rat Girl thoroughly, reading it from cover to cover faster than they would normally read a book. Glazed Man & Rat Girl is not only for kids. Adults who like a good satire will also enjoy my book. It is essentially a spoof on all things “superhero”. I had a good time writing … Continue reading A Great Gift For Young Readers

The Mysterious Benedict Society

I read The Mysterious Benedict Society with one of my daughters not long ago. We were looking for a book we could read together and chose this one because it’s story appealed to both of us despite our age difference. Trenton Lee Stewart’s The Mysterious Benedict Society did not disappoint. In short, it’s the story of a hand-picked group of school kids assembled by an eccentric genius named Nicholas Benedict, to go on a secret mission to save the world. A second eccentric genius, who is mysteriously linked to Mr. Benedict, is brain washing kids and using them to accomplish his evil schemes. … Continue reading The Mysterious Benedict Society
