The Incredibles 2 – My Review

It may not be much of a surprise, but my favorite movie of all time is The Incredibles. I have waited anxiously for the sequel and after viewing it over the weekend with my teenage kids, I was not disappointed. If you don’t count the Toy Story movies (all three are so brilliant, 2 and 3 hardly seem like sequels), then Pixar got into the business of making sequels back in 2011 when they made Cars 2. That movie alone instantly cheapened Pixar’s brand as soon as it came out. The rest of their sequels have been better, but all … Continue reading The Incredibles 2 – My Review

My Creative Christian Heroes

One of my passions is to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ communicated to the world in creative ways. Just because we’re talking about God doesn’t mean we have to preach a sermon, standing in a pulpit, delivering a dry monologue, using Biblical terms that many people don’t understand. We believers should use the talents and gifts God has given us to tell the lost world about Jesus in creative ways. Jesus did when he spoke in parables. Storytelling was one of the highest forms of entertainment of His day. Therefore, I’ve compiled a list of Christians who have inspired me, throughout … Continue reading My Creative Christian Heroes

Christmas Movie Favorites

One of the great things about the holiday season is that we adults are home on vacation and we get to spend more time with our kids and our spouse. A big question that gets asked around my house during that special time of the year is , “what do you all want to do tonight?” More often than not, the answer that we all agree on is to watch a Christmas movie together. Below is a list of our personal favorites for the holiday season. These are the movies that everyone in my family can enjoy. Not only is … Continue reading Christmas Movie Favorites

Beauty and the Beast 2017, Still Magical

A STAR for Entertainment Value … Disney’s new live-action Beauty and the Beast movie gives us all the charm and magic of their 1991 classic and more. The translation from classic animation to real live actors and sets was almost flawless in my book, although I must point out that it wasn’t a full translation. By that I mean there were still many computer generated characters, effects, and settings throughout the film. However, this new mostly live action version was a faithful, modernized adaptation of the animated Beauty and the Beast that we all know and love. The actors chosen to … Continue reading Beauty and the Beast 2017, Still Magical

Thoughts on Dr Strange Movie

After seeing the new movie, Dr. Strange a few nights ago, I’m giving it the following two ratings:  for Entertainment Value  for Content Concerns The 2 symbols I’ve used above are called SPLARS, a hybrid of a STAR and a SPLAT. A SPLAR means the movie falls somewhere between good and bad. Entertainment Value In many ways, Dr. Strange was a very entertaining movie. Benedict Cumberbatch was perfect for the role. Not only was his acting right on, but he fit the part physically as well. The character arc for Dr. Strange as a character was very effective. He was somewhat unlikable … Continue reading Thoughts on Dr Strange Movie

Captain America: Civil War … Good vs Good = Bad

I finally got a chance to see Captain America: Civil War over the weekend. I know its been out since May of this year, but life has been busy and movie going funds have been low. My daughters and I have been patiently waiting for this, the next installment in The Avengers saga to come out on DVD. The movie promised one of the largest cast of superheros ever assembled for one movie. There were familiar favorites and fresh new faces. This was going to be great, or so we thought. We popped our popcorn, poured our sodas, turned up the volume, … Continue reading Captain America: Civil War … Good vs Good = Bad

BFG is Big and Friendly

The new movie, BFG (Big Friendly Giant), has disappointed in ticket sales so far, but in the “great movie” department, it’s a huge success. I took my 13 year old daughter to see it this past weekend and we both had nothing but good things to say about it. The story, adapted from a much beloved book by Roald Dahl, has a classic feel with plenty of old fashioned good versus evil action, and just enough magic mixed in to carry us viewers into a world that’s much more fun and exciting then the one we live in. The giant is lovable and … Continue reading BFG is Big and Friendly

Indiana Jones Films Ranked

For my Father’s Day celebration this year, I simply asked to have an Indiana Jones movie marathon at my house so that I could enjoy these classic movies with my kids. The day was a big success. We got through them all and I was able to introduce my kids to some of the greatest movies of all time. Now that they are all fresh in my mind, I thought it would be a good time to rank the four of them in their order of greatness, from the least great to the most great. None of them are bad … Continue reading Indiana Jones Films Ranked

Beyond The Mask

I was interested in seeing Beyond the Mask because, to my knowledge, its the first action adventure period movie produced by a Christian film company. Burns Family Studios made Beyond the Mask and released it last year. The only movie series that I can think of to compare it to is the Pirates of the Caribbean series, although Mask is not about pirates. But, it is around the same time period and involves lots of action set in historic locations between good guys and bad guys. The story is set in the 1700’s in England and in America during the … Continue reading Beyond The Mask

The Worldview Of ‘The Jungle Book’

Following is a fair and honest exploration of the world view presented in the new movie “The Jungle Book” by author and professor Sean McDowell, Ph.D. Be warned, it contains spoilers. “My entire family went to see The Jungle Book this past weekend. From my 3 ½-year old son, to my mother-in-law, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Disney is to be commended for making an engaging, creative, and faithful “live” version of this classic story. Like all fictional movies, The Jungle Book offers a story, which has worldview implications. Two questions lie at the heart of the movie: What does … Continue reading The Worldview Of ‘The Jungle Book’
