Beyond The Mask

I was interested in seeing Beyond the Mask because, to my knowledge, its the first action adventure period movie produced by a Christian film company. Burns Family Studios made Beyond the Mask and released it last year. The only movie series that I can think of to compare it to is the Pirates of the Caribbean series, although Mask is not about pirates. But, it is around the same time period and involves lots of action set in historic locations between good guys and bad guys. The story is set in the 1700’s in England and in America during the … Continue reading Beyond The Mask

The Worldview Of ‘The Jungle Book’

Following is a fair and honest exploration of the world view presented in the new movie “The Jungle Book” by author and professor Sean McDowell, Ph.D. Be warned, it contains spoilers. “My entire family went to see The Jungle Book this past weekend. From my 3 ½-year old son, to my mother-in-law, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Disney is to be commended for making an engaging, creative, and faithful “live” version of this classic story. Like all fictional movies, The Jungle Book offers a story, which has worldview implications. Two questions lie at the heart of the movie: What does … Continue reading The Worldview Of ‘The Jungle Book’

Zootopia Review

Walt Disney Animation Studios is at the top of their game these days with yet another first class animated movie like Zootopia, coming right on the heels of possibly the most popular animated movie ever, Frozen in 2013. In 2010 they gave us the equally wonderful Tangled and then in 2014 they changed their game with a wonderful story about a boy and his robot called Big Hero 6. Followers of my blog might recall that I wrote a post in 2014 that predicted that Disney had found their new hit movie making formula. I called it the Frozen Formula. … Continue reading Zootopia Review

Galaxy Quest – Funny Sci-Fi

I introduced my kids to one of the great science fiction comedies of all time, Galaxy Quest. The plot centers around the cast of a fictional science fiction TV show. It’s obviously patterned off of the original Star Trek tv series starring William Shatner and Leonard Neemoy. The series in the movie is called, Galaxy Quest, and it’s tired and older cast members includeed Tim Allen as the actor who played the Captain of the Spaceship, Alan Rickman who plays the actor who plays the science officer, and Sigourney Weaver who plays the actor who played the lone female cast member. I … Continue reading Galaxy Quest – Funny Sci-Fi

Thoughts on Star Wars: The Force Awakens

A GREAT MOVIE! First, I just want to make it clear that I loved this movie. The Force Awakens was the perfect blend of the old and new. We got just enough of Han Solo and the old gang to make us old folks remember the thrill of the classic Star Wars. But, more importantly, we got plenty of fresh faces and a new exciting story line to propel us fans into the future. This one never felt stale and clunky like Episodes 1, 2, and 3. The acting in The Force Awakens was passionate and believable. The special effects were … Continue reading Thoughts on Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Movies About Thankfullness

This is my list of  great movies that teach thankfulness. Only a few of them include the Thanksgiving holiday, but they all have being thankful as part of they’re core message.  Also, you should know that these are all personal favorites of mine. I’ve watched each of these movies more than once, over the years, with my family. 6. MR HOLLAND’S OPUS – be thankful for your life – This is a wonderful movie about a high school band teacher whose personal life and professional life includes many ups and downs. As he approaches retirement, he’s feeling as if his life has … Continue reading Movies About Thankfullness

6 Movie Characters Who Are Great Role Models

The kids of today are more influenced by fictional characters than in any time in history. That’s because our society has somehow come to the conclusion that in order for our children to grow up properly we must give them their own personal viewing device (cell phone), at the earliest sign of puberty, so that they never have to be separated from instant entertainment.  So, for that reason, and because I just like thinking about these kinds of things, I’ve decided to create a list of some of the best fictional role models for kids in today’s entertainment. For my list, … Continue reading 6 Movie Characters Who Are Great Role Models
