Electrical Menagerie – Book Review

Electrical Menagerie by Mollie E. Reeder is the delightful story of magic and the entertainers whose lives are defined by the magic they create. The time and setting are never defined, but the story seems to be set in some alternate universe that looks a lot like Earth in the late 1800s but it includes certain technological advancements, like robots, that could never have existed back in those days. However, the author weaves these hi-tech elements so masterfully into the story that they felt natural to the world of the Electrical Menagerie. The plot follows an illusionist named Carthage and … Continue reading Electrical Menagerie – Book Review

Vikings of Loch Morar – Book Review

The Vikings of Loch Morar by William D. Burt is an interesting and fun blend of family adventure, mystery, science fiction, and historical fiction. This book is the second in the Creation Seekers series. I had not read the first book but I had no problem catching up. For the most part, this book feels like a stand-alone adventure. The characters occasionally refer to what happened in book 1, and anything that the reader needs to know is explained well. The story follows a family of scientists that includes a young man named John and his father and grandfather. They … Continue reading Vikings of Loch Morar – Book Review

Driven To The Hilt – Book Review

Driven to the Hilt: The Deepest Cut by D.G. Lamb is one of the most original and well-told stories I’ve ever read. First-time author D.G. Lamb has established himself as a new talent in young adult novels with this first effort. At its core, this is a survival tale that reminded me a little of other great books like The Martian and Swiss Family Robinson. Driven to the Hilt, however, took  the basic concept of man vs. nature in a totally original direction. The story takes place in a colony of Earth on another planet in the not-too-distant-future. An eleven-year-old … Continue reading Driven To The Hilt – Book Review

The Maze Runner Books

STAR for Entertainment Value …. and a STAR for Clean Content …  The Maze Runner Trilogy, written by James Dashner, and consisting of The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, and The Death Cure are an excellent Young Adult series that I highly recommend to anyone 13 and up. There are other titles in the series that I have not read. I believe they are prequels to the main series. The storyline throughout the whole series kept me guessing. I was never really sure where the stories were going, and that’s a good thing. These books are completely original in their concept. … Continue reading The Maze Runner Books
