The following story has been all over the news lately. The article below comes from pluggedin.com. I had never heard of the Benham brothers before this story broke, but I must say I’m saddened for the way they were attacked, however I salute them for handling it with maturity and grace.
“The first and last thought on our minds as we begin and end each day is; have we shined Christ’s light today? Our faith is the fundamental calling in our lives, and the centerpiece of who we are. As Christians we are called to love our fellow man. Anyone who suggests that we hate homosexuals or people of other faiths is either misinformed or lying. Over the last decade, we’ve sold thousands of homes with the guiding principle of producing value and breathing life into each family that has crossed our path, and we do not, nor will we ever discriminate against people who do not share our views. We were saddened to hear HGTV’s decision. With all of the grotesque things that can be seen and heard ontelevision today you would think there would be room for two twin brothers who are faithful to our families, committed to biblical principles, and dedicated professionals. If our faith costs us a television show then so be it.”
—a written statement from David and Jason Benham, after it was announced that HGTV was cancelling their forthcoming reality series Flip It Forward, allegedly because of the brothers’ Christian faith and past statements they’d made criticizing homosexuality and Islam. The announcement came a day after the activist organization People for the American Way publicized information regarding the Benhams’ convictions. In an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett, David added, “We love homosexuals and love Muslims and have nothing against [them]. The point of this is there’s an agenda that is seeking to silence the voice of men and women of faith. That’s what all this is about. I absolutely think any sex outside marriage is not healthy for human flourishing.” [deadline.com, 5/8/14]
